How do you achieve light photography? and water photography?

i really wanna know how lol! so what settings would you put on your dslr on to achieve'em? :D thanks. best answer 10 points!
 
For the first image the photographer set a very long shutterspeed and small aperature (the bigger the number the smaller the aperature) allowing a second person in the photo (whom you cannot see due to shutterspeed) to use a flashlight to basically paint the light around the subject.

For the second photo the photographer set a very fast shutterspeed and large aperature to capture the moment in time as the water droplet prepares to fall.

Note: To achieve the perfect shot of these styles you may need to retake the photo many times over until you are well practiced.
