You don't want to look at university league tables because most if not all of them are unrepresentative of how much students actually benefit from the university.
You want to choose a university that is relative to a person that you are, a place that you would love to be everyday of your education/studying period. First you should decide if you want to study from home or move away to a house closer to the university or, live on campus.
What kind of university do you want to go to? A collegiate university or just a very large university located on one site? Do you want a plate glass university or a traditional looking university? Then you want to decide what you want to study and which university provides the best options for your chosen course. Does the method of teaching suit your learning style? Do you like learning with a large number of students, where it's not possible to get a one on one explanation from a teacher or do you like learning in small groups where you can get the attention of the teacher? Do you like problem based learning? These are the type of things you should ask yourself and when you decide what you want and the course you want to study. Go on the different university websites and order their prospectuses which should be free. Look at these and go on some visiting or open days for these universities, to get a real feel of what they are like.
