How do the Star Wars prequels tell the story of Anakin Skywalker?

Without bringing up the EU(If you do, I will thumbs-down the hell out of you), how do the Star Wars prequels tell the fall of Anakin Skywalker? I ask because by the time we got to Attack of the clones, Anakin was already evil(for no reason?), and yes, I would normally understand if somebody tries to explain a plothole through something in the EU, and that would normally be fine but when George Lucas says that the trilogy is going to tell us THE WHOLE STORY of Anakin Skywalker, I expect that!(call me crazy for expecting that though).

Glad to see someone else observe that. All my friends and family thought I was nuts when I expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transition from "sweet kid" to "presumptuous jerk" for Anakin. I mean, teenagers are teenagers and one can expect some degree of "I'm always right" from most of them, but Anakin was blatantly evil from the moment he walked on the screen in Episode II. Can't blame it on the jerkiness of Qui Gon, unless maybe he possessed the li'l shaver from his well deserved post-mortem abode on the Dark Side o' the afterlife. Very, very important to the character development of the central character of Star Wars, and Mr. Lucas seems to have decided to skip it -- or maybe such relativism had seeped into his heart in the 30 years since it all began that he thought sneering, solipsistic hyper-dominance was a normal part of goodness and right.
