how do spam emails get my real name?

i have often wondered when i check my mail i often see messages that say "Here's what you have been looking for Adam Eve!"
(assuming my name was Adam Eve)

I don't sign up on any stupid advertisements or sponsors..

how are these spam emails getting my full name?
 
You just have to give your name and email address to a single site for it to spread everywhere. You can't always trust a site to keep it private.
