How do sleeping pills affect people with multiple personality disorder?

My boyfriend, after watching an episode of Matlock called "The Other Woman" swore up and down that it was true. Apparently a woman with multiple personality disorder took a sleeping pill and one of her personalities stayed asleep while the other woke up and killed her husband.
I asked if the show was fictional, to which he said the cases were real. I said I doubted it because wouldn't the sleeping pill affect the person physically? No matter how many personalities a person has, isn't it their body being effected by the drugs?
He also said the lady was like injured in a fire so she had to walk with a cane, but during her other personality she didn't.
Personally I think it's a bunch of crap. But he doesn't believe me, so I had to find some proof.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong and I'll have to say sorry.
I don't have insomnia. That's not what this question is about. :(
It's about people with multiple personality disorder. Which I don't have either.
