how do put cheats in for red faction the first game for the ps2?

i still play on the ps2 on red faction the first game even though i have a ps3.But when i went on the internet to look for red faction 1 cheats for ps2 the description reads out; Enter these cheats at the cheats screen in the optionss menu... There is'nt a cheats screen in the game and i tried doing so many ways of putting cheats in but they never work. Please help me if you have worked with the cheats for ps2 on red faction. how do you put the cheats in?
