How do progress doing sidesplits?

Currently after warming up i can do sidesplits down to 9inches of the ground, i know my legs can go further because i can sit on a 9inch tall box and the stretch isnt too intense for me to stay there.

What I want to know is, what should i do to be able to retain my sidesplit flexibility without warming up?

if i warm up properly and such, i can swiftly go into a sidesplit and out but after about 10-15 minutes of not doing sidesplits i end up having to go through all the warming up again.
