I was doing a DAW collab sesh with another musician called Evano. We both specialize in soundtracks, especially VG OSTs, so we had a common idea in mind when we were discussing via Skype.
The problem was, I've never made music for the sake of making music before, and in my own opinion, I was trumped by Evano's superiority here. Not that being out-awesomed is a bad thing, I respect Evano's music, and Evano a lot.
I felt really strange, like I suddenly lost all my influences and my goals with writing music, and while I was winging it, I was being held by the hand to what feels the piece should have.
You see, my opinion is that talented artists are those that make people feel something and be technically skilled at the same time. Being good at writing effective phrases, being good at singing, making catchy melodies or playing instruments just mean technical skill. People who have ideas, but don't know how to use them just want to express, but can't. I feel I'm losing one side, the technical side here, despite being able to use a DAW pretty well

I'm twee(rock).
Tell me what you think, I'd like to know. I like the song as a whole, and the melodies I wrote were pretty catchy imo, but what am I meant to do the next time I do something like this? When I'm just pretty much improvising tunes, how am I supposed to write quality music?
Sorry if this is a little confusing. I didn't proof read.
PS. Please know what you're talking about this time.
