How do I write a History paper?

For instance, lets just say ur argument is "Germany was not sole responsible for the First World War, all the imperialist powers contributed to the wars outbreak."

ok, so that is the main idea of ur essay.

lets say ur thesis is "(1)the alliance system, (2)imperial rivalries, and (3)the international economy is what caused WW1's outbreak."

Ok so u have ur 3 points (of course, u can have as many points as u want)

now, find facts/quotes/info, etc to prove and back up ur thesis (3 Pontis).

*you must find PROOF to back up those points. Remember, EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE in ur essay has to relate to your main idea. you have to CONVINCE the reader that is wasn't only Germany that started the war. ARGUE that all the other countries were involved, not only Germany.

I am a Junior at University. I am just now starting to take history classes. This is what I know so far. Historians ask questions, specific questions, they do research, and the paper, or book, is the written results of that research that answers the question asked. The professor said that I have to make an argument, or a point, I can't just state facts, I get that, but I don't know where to begin, or how to write 10 pages that isn't complete BS. Please help.
