Madi - You will only hear the effect of the EQ if you play the guitar through an amp. The EQ does not effect the acoustic sound of your guitar. That module needs a battery too.
I just looked at the manual and that is a pretty easy guitar module. If you don't hear the EQ, check to see if the tuner works. If not, maybe you need to take it back to see if they can fix it.
