How do i use my xbox 360 wireless controller on my PC while playing Tremulous?

hi there to anyone reading this.

Im trying to play tremulous with my xbox 360 controller but i cant get it to work. i've gone through all of the options and there isnt anywhere to change settings about 'joystick' or 'controller'. i changed a few other settings not relevant to this but when i left the settings menu i saw it say 'joystick not active' or 'joystick not connected' and i assumed that i could use my controller

i know everything is connected and my controller was working with 2 other games but i just dont know wat is wrong could someong plz tell me wat to do plz? thanks
