how do I use an external hard drive for a photo and audio library?

have 2 daughters with ipods. Have a 750 gig external drive and would like to set it up some way where they could store and share their itunes and photos. Lost at where to start and what to do. Just a dumbdad trying to make points with his daughters.
 
you cant connect mp3 players directly to the external hard drive, but you can plug the external into your computer, copy all the files you want them to have access to on the hard drive then add them to the ipods using whatever program you did before. Peace
