How do I unlock my Samsung Galaxy i5700?

My friend was messing about with my phone and entered the password in wrong (where you have to join dots in a certain order) too many times. It's now come up with a screen saying "Too many pattern attempts! To unlock sign in with your Google account" I've tried typing in my user name and password but it says the combination is invalid. I know it's correct as I can sign in on my computer with the same details. What can I do?
 
I have the same problem! managed to change my password on the computer but cannot access my account through my mobile????

I read somewhere to switch your phone off and the hold down your volume down button whilst switching your phone on again. After that a menu option should come up on the screen and you select 'clear'. However I am having no luck!
