How do I tell what size wheels/rims will fit my car?

I am getting a 91' civic hatch later this week.. The first thing I would like to do is get rid of the nasty steel wheels. How do I tell if a wheel will fit my car when looking through ebay or some other site? Is it as simple as lining up bolts or do exact measurements need to be taken?
