how do i tell if i need gear fluid or a clutch for my 1990 chevy cheyanne?

My truck won't go into gear! it is a 5 speed.don't know how to tell if it is the clutch or gear fluid
 
if it wil not go into gear most likely clutch and you can check fluid by sliding under truck and removing plug on side of trans stick little finger in hole if you can touch fluid its good.. type into search box

It's not the fluid in the gearbox.
Friction plates wear over time and this condition is typically gradually in occurring.

Your clutch cable, if equipped may need to be adjusted, or it's time to change the clutch etc.
