Well I was very competitive in mixed martial arts/ jujitsu/boxing, and high school Wrestling, but lately I want to try out a different sport for a while, "basketball". I still love martial arts but I've lost interest so I'd like to try basketball because it seems so interesting. I live in Texas so I love the Spurs, but beyond that I'd like to learn how to play. I've never played before and have no experience other than with friends some Saturdays at the park. I am going to be a senior next year and the only sport I've competed in is Wrestling. I don't think I can try out for the junior varsity basketball team next year since I'm a senior I guess it's too late. But after next year I'm planning to go to a small local university and play there. It's called University of Texas Pan American. They don't have many sports, but they do have Basketball and have had around 9 players make it to the NBA, the last one in the 80's I believe. They are division 1. How can I make it there? I don't know
how to play so the University wont accept me for basketball after my senior year. And yes I do love it its very fun and I feel like I can play the sport all day, but I want to start getting competitive in it as well. Oh by the way, I'm 175 but I look 145, I am very agile, I run about 5 miles a day so it's all cool. I'm short for basketball, about 5'8 with shoes on, so that sucks for me too. Are the odds against me? Also I can't find anyone to play with I don't have much friends who are into basketball and I really don't hang out with anyone because I'm kind of a quiet guy. Quiet doesn't mean anything though, I can really adopt other sports easily, but I want to start! Bes time to start is now, if I'm given the opportunity. Any advice is appreciated.
I need to learn how to play because I can run fast but I cant dribble the ball and run fast at the same time, cant make much lay ups or three pointers, and cant fake out guys neither. I need to learn some rules too!
