How do I start a business?

My fiance and I have come up with an idea for a business. How do we go about getting started? I know there's SO much to learn and do, I'm just asking for general suggestions, perhaps from people with experience starting their own business. Are there any recommended books/websites for starting a business? Any tips/words of advice would be appreciated!

you can get help via the business advisors at the local job centre

Also Business Gateway and Business Link offer free advice, support and training
