...card.? My son's father and I are seperated, but were never married. For awhile he tried to tell me that he could not get insurance on his son because he did not have custody of him. He has visitation and pays child support. Right before he left for iraq, he finally told me that he was able to have our son covered by his military insurance. I asked if he could send me an insurance card, but he said that he had to be 10 to get a card. He said that all I had to do is tell the doctor his social security number and apparently they could look up his insurance information. This doesn't seem right to me....can anyone help me with this situation? How can I get proof or a card to show the doctor that my son has insurance?

There is no insurance card unless he is enrolled in TRICARE Prime (HMO option). Your son has to be enrolled in DEERS and have a military depedent ID card to be eligible for regular TRICARE. Getting that done is his father's responsibility. The "age 10" rule can be waived in such cases. See the TRICARE website.

He is correct. Tell the doctor that your son's father is active duty-give them your son's father's SS# and they can call and verify the coverage with Tricare.
