We have these local Unique Thrift Stores, each have
a basket of odd remote controls. Panasonic remotes
are easy to find. $1.95 each, I have a few myself.
Most Panasonics built in 2000 and newer have the
bright display, and 1999 models and older have that
annoying dim display. The last Panasonic VCR was
built in '05 '06. I picked up a few old '89 Sony VCRs
for $10 each at Unique Thrift and they run like a tank.
The older black Sonys can also suffer from dim displays
but work best with converter boxes. I would look for
a newer VCR maybe at a garage sale.

The remote is a Panasonic N2QAYB000401 included with a Panasonic Viera TV (th-l37s10a). I wish to use it to control an older Panasonic VCR NVSD270. The instructions given in the tv manual do not appear to be working for me, and have tried different remote codes found on the internet but to no success. The TV and remote are both new, purchased today. The VCR is and old one, made before 2000. Its manual includes directions on how to use its remote to control a TV, so i imagine that a new remote can control that particular VCR. The remote for the VCR is now faulty, hence why i want to use a new remote. I have many old tapes which i want to be able to watch, without having to burn them over to DVD. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
