how do i send photos from my iphone to my laptop?

without using e-mail or blue tooth. i have a usb cable so can plug my phone into the laptop but then what??? nothing comes up for me to click on, it is almost like i havent even plugged it in. when i plug in my digital camera i can do it because a little both comes up asking if i want to import or view the pics etc but my phone wont do that and i cant find anything in my computer or control panel etc. thanks
