How do I see my iPod touch screen on my tv?

I bought the cord that plugs into my iPod and the tv so i would be able to see the internet browser on my tv screenbut I have no clue how to get my iPod screen on the tv. Can someone please help me? The cord was very expensive and it will be a big disappointment if I can't haha but anyways 10 points best answer thanks
