How do I return the car?

Unfortunately it doesn't really work that way. You bought it, it's yours. The only way you might possibly be able to get a refund is if you get the police involved, but to be honest,t he guy did nothing wrong. The people who did something wrong was you and your Dad, for not bothering to get the car checked out first by a professional (which you could have requested from the previous owner) before handing over your money.
Pretty much, you and your family should live and learn, and research the process of buying a car so that next time you don't get screwed over.

Today my dad and I went to look at a car.
The guy selling it said it was salvaged and it needs:
new air bags, horn fixed, door locks fixed, new tire caps, new extra tire and jack, seat belt fixed, and one window fixed.
Plus the registration expired a few weeks ago so i need to register the car and get new license plate and transfer into my name.
Being me, I don't know anything about cars and my dad doesn't really know either, I thought it was okay since it looked good. So my dad and I gave him $5,400 for a salvaged 2004 Honda Civic and I signed a receipt saying he sold me the car without air bags and without warranty.
But i haven't signed anything else yet. Afterwards, I went to an auto shop to get a smog check and told the mechanic that I just bought it and its details. He then said I paid too much for it.
So basically I only signed a reciept and nothing else and my dad didn't sign anything at all. The car isnt in my name and isnt registered to me yet.
And my parents now want the money back. I called the guy and he won't give me a refund. My parents said I should go to the police and tell them since i'm under 18 and i could get the money back.

What could I do to get the money back?
I desperately need help and need the money to get a car so I can start school in two days.
What are the chances I could get it back?
