How do I reset the Panasonic KX-TGA500w 5.8 GHz handset to a new base station?

Manual does not say how.? The old base station is dead and gone, but I have the handset and would like to register it with a new base station, but the instructions say to 'press OK' after holding the Locator button on the new base station. This does not work because the handset is looking for the old and dead base station.
 
Press MENU
Select INITIAL SETUP
Select REGISTRATION
Select DE-REGISTRATION (if available)
Select HS-REGISTRATION

On base, hold LOCATOR until base beeps and/or light starts blinking
On Handset press OK

If that doesn't work, then there is a chance that that the two units are incompatible.
