How do I reprogram a Virgin Media Modem?

I have Virgin Media Broadband and want to use another modem to get my 360 online. I don't want to pay for a router and the wireless adapter for the 360 when I can just buy a used modem for under ten pounds. I know that modem's are specific to each home so if I buy a second hand one how do I reprogram it to work in my house? It is an Ambit 256 Modem
 
Modems are not specific to each home. The BRAND of the modem may be specific to each ISP -- all this is done via the firmware that is embedded in modem's ROM chips.

You cannot flash the firmware unless you have a replacement firmware for it. Contact your ISP for details.
