Beneath about four layers of paint on the trims in my living room there is a beautiful varnished wood. I started removing the paint via a heat gun, but I've reached a roadblock with the windows as the heat gun is loosening the putty in addition to the paint, which I do not want to do. The top paint layer is white, as is the putty, so it's a little difficult when the paint approaches and overlaps the putty. Is there an easy, safe way to remove the paint without the putty coming off as well? Would a chemical remover work in this case?
