How do I remove some songs from my jailbroken 3gs iphone?

firmware 5.0.1. I have loads of songs I want to remove a few songs from an artist that I particularly like but I can't. I unchecked a few of the songs and resync-ed it and it doesn't get removed. How do I make this work?
