How do I remove Empire Total War patches from my computer?

Since Steam installed the latest patch for Empire Total War on my computer and I purchased and downloaded the War Path campaign, I can't play the game at all now. It just crashes to desktop about 5 minutes into the game. I have the latest drivers installed for my Graphics card and the game was working fine until the latest patch installed. Has anyone else had this problem?
