How do I remove a USB flash drive from an iMac?

Make sure the flash drive is not doing any read/write operation and just unplug it.

but its pretty much unnessacary to safely eject a usb drive espically in vista and 7

I'm using a flash drive on an iMac, and I don't want to take it out until I remove it from the computer. I know how to do this on a PC, but not on a Mac. What do I do?

On the right bottom there will be a icon for your flash drive. Click it a box will open click Eject, When the light goes out on your flash drive un plug it.
