How do I remove a u-lock, from my bike in which I have the key, but the lock is

threaded? I was given this older bike (very nice bike), by my boss (it had been unused, in her garage for several years) and she had left a u-lock, locked, through the frame and front tire. When I went to use the key, it just spins in the hole and apears to be not moving and possibly threaded?
