How do I remove a electronic tag off of clothing?

I bought a skirt from Hot Topic the other day-- problem is the cashier actually forgot to remove the electronic tag!! it's made of metal, so i can't just cut it... I don't know what to do!

I don't have a Hot Topic in my town, I bought the skirt on a road trip.

yes, i thought about going to another store but... there isn't any in town that have electronic tags. It may sound rediculous but my town is smaller than you think...
I didn't shop lift -.-;
The most evillist thing I've ever done is type "google" at google.com.
