How do I recover old text messages from my partially broken Samsung Intensity 2?

The screen on my phone, a Samsung Intensity 2, does not function. Outside of that, the phone works. I have a couple texts that were sent to that phone that I need to see. How can I do that? When I plug the phone into my PC, the only file is a format that I cannot use (.FIL)

Please help!
