How do I record on Panasonic DMR-EX87?

Can anybody tell me how I record TV programmes on my DVD player DVB HDD and DVD. It's driving me crazy, I've tried everything and so has my son. I did record a few things a couple of years ago but then we packed it away during some house renovation. I can't find my instructions either! Sometimes I think it's perfectly set up to record but then all I record is fresh air.... please help!! Step by step guide appreciated! Thank you for any answers.
