How do i progress in the art of jewelry making?

I may be only 17, but I suddenly had a thing for jewelry just recently when my earth science class started on jewelry making. We are on copper rings now and I had already thought of making the copper rings I make in class and then selling them on ebay and to people around town, but I was hoping for something like apprenticeship. I actually hope to profess in something else like writing and theatre, but jewelry making can help finance me and my future plans and projects. If anyone can give me a suggestion on how to progress with this former dormant skill, it would be a great help. Thank you to anyone who answers this question.
