How do I play pre-recorded movies from DISHnetwork?

New member
I changed over to DirectTV and have the DVR filled up with movies from DishNetwork that I recorded to watch later. I thought I was just going to hook the HDMI cable up to a Hi-def tv and play the movies,but with no dishnetwork hooked up, It doesn't seem to want to operate. I can see the notice as if the dish had went out and says to select to hook it up. But, I simply want to play the pre-recorded movies that I have already paid for. Hope you understand my question. I guess I may have to dissect the machine and pull the hard drive out.
