How do I play musiv on my xbox with a flash drive?

When i put music on my flash drive it says a media update is required. I use songs from itunes. Also is it possible to get the update without live?
 
i dont think its possible to get the update without live. I have read there are ways to do it, but seem long and you will need to know what youre doing, and know where to get the updates and tranfer to your xbox !

Your xbox should be able to play all the mp3 music formats straight from your flash drive without an update. Make sure all your music is Mp3 format, and try some other songs aswell of your drive .......
