how do i move my table/menu in html/css?

i have created a table to act as a menu, but whenever i add in text, it just drop to below the level of the text. how do i put this menu/table in a fixed position so that it does not move? also where do i put the tag? somewhere in here - <table ID=Menu border="5"
cellpadding="10"> or somewhere else. thanks for the help
i am very new to this, i am doing it as part of an assignment, first web site ever. can you talk me through how to do that?
 
You must be more specific or show us your webpage. I have no idea what you mean when you say "it just drop to below the level of the text." Explain more.
