How do I market my own book without financial backing?

I am working on a book which details my life as an exotic dancer. This work means everything to me and it has great marketability if given the chance. The only hiccup is that through my research of the process of publication, any notable house will expect you to handle your own book promotions. How do I make my book known nationally with a meager investment? Is it possible? Do you have to be rich already to have a bestseller?
 
You could partner with someone else, who is willing to back your investment. (As the saying goes, a piece of a large pie is better than one small cookie.)
