how do i make more progress with this shy guy im interested in?

hey!!

okay so i need some boy advice majorly
there is a guy from college who seems interested in me. i used to see him staring at me in class
recently we have started to catch up outside of class.
its difficult because we just get a coffee and talk and i cant really flirt or anything (without being awkward!)
i've heard he is REALLY shy about girls and dating.
i like him, but how do i ask him how he feels without appearing too full on?
we've known each other for 1.5 years!! i am completely fine with being friends,but i feel the longer we catch up in a 'friendly' way the more difficult it will be to transition into bf/gf.
we dont have many mutual friends.
he has found time for me even though he has heaps of friends.

if i text him to say it was great to see him, he'll never say it was great to see me too. (but he will reply heaps and be nice). he also didnt admit that he drove 30 mins just to see me in my area a couple of weeks ago (even though i figured out he didnt actually have anything else on then)

go out with him, especially to the movies. Stare at him buut when you see him stare at u just look somewhere else. If he's intrested in u even a bit ull notice. Wait for the right moment and kiss him. Don't be shy or nervous. This doesn't happen in a date, you have to go out more than 2.
