how do i make adobe flash player work?

i wanna play a game that requires adobe flash player. so it had the little box on the page that said get adobe flash player. i clicked on it, it took me to the adobe website, and i downloaded it and followed the instructions and everything. i went back to the website where the game was, and this window popped up that said flash player was downloading and then it finished. well the game still wont play and the little box that says get flash player is still there. and this has happened before :/ what do i do?
 
when you are on the adobe download page look for the link that says "if download doesn't start automatically, click here", click there (even if the download did seem to start). save the download, close your browser, go to folder where you saved the download and double-click on the file.
