How Do I Make A Remote Control To Fit The Electric Car?

Hello, I was just wondering how to make a remote control so that it will fit and connect well to a remote controlled car. I used to have a remote for it but then that broke and was very frustrating to use (don't worry, I didn't bash it up into pieces :) so if you guys know anything on this question or know a book or a useful website please answer this. Thanks!
