How do i load files from my usb to my android tablet?

I have an android tablet with 2.1
(i'm new to the android system so bear with me please)

i have files on a usb, that is already connect to the tablet.
I can see the files.
I have a few files i want to permanently move to the onboard memory.
Files: some pdf's and some pictures (jpgs)

I can read them fine from the usb. however i may not always want to connect the usb and keep those file more conveniently placed.
