How do I know what does 2 flashing red lights mean on my xbox 360 elite?

Two flashing red lights means that the xbox is shutting itself down to prevent damage, the only time I have ever incounterd it is when its not cooling properly and gets REALLY hot. Three red lights can also be caused by overheating.
 
I was playing for about 5 minutes and then my console turned off and 2 flashing red lights started to blink, Also sometimes when i try to turn it it gives me 3 flashing red lights so i turn it off and restart the console and everything is just as fine.

Please help me to know what's the problem, am i in way of havind the red ring of death? What can I do? What dos the red lights mean?
