How do I know if my bike is a girls bike?

I was handed down a pretty expensive bike from my father a while ago, and he had bought it for my mother. This makes me think that it is a girls bike, but I cannot be sure. The bike is a Trek 830. Is this a girls bike, or how can I tell if it is one?
