how do i keep cat litter from getting into my cats wound?

My kitty got into a fight a week back and his scratch is in between his claws and every time he uses his litter box litter gets stuck in it so i have to remove all of the littler and clean it with hydrogen peroxide. its getting really annoying having to clean his foot every time he uses the restroom .. any suggestions?
oh.. i forgot to add, i use to wrap his little paw up in a cast type thing and it would work for a little but then he would shake his foot extremely fast and the cast would go flying across the room ..

What type of litter are you using? It would be good idea to switch to something more comfortable for the cat during this time. Feline pine makes a clumping pine dust, which is pretty safe for de-clawed cats and would thus be safe for your cat. It natural and it smells wonderful. It is possible to wrap the foot, but unless the cat is licking it excessively or the would keeps re-opening it might be better to let it dry out. Continuing to clean it is a good idea either way, at least for the first couple of days to help prevent infection, wounds inflicted by other cats - especially bites - tend to become infected and may form an abscess if not checked.
