How do I install and run new photo booth effects for my Mac?

First of all, I just got my MacBook Pro so I'm pretty new with Macs. Easy, step by step instructions would be appreciated!
I have the effects downloaded from Apple.com, but they aren't showing up in photo booth. How do I make them work?
