I want to get an aftermarket stereo receiver in my '05 Cobalt (the factory one really sucks) but Crutchfield, and also the people at my local stereo place, say I need this adapter that prevents the "driver info center" from getting messed up. I've heard that just choosing not to buy it can stop all the gauges from working too, even though Crutchfield says I'll only lose the info center behind the steering wheel.
Anyways, what I really want to know is if I could just buy it online for much cheaper and install it myself instead of getting overcharged at a stereo shop. Thanks a lot
