How do I install a new stereo in my Chrysler Pacifica?

I want to install a new stereo in my 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. This car has the stock amplifier in the back, but I don't want to use it. Can I hook the speaker level output from the new stereo to the wires going to the amp, then just jump the amp by connecting the input and output wires together at the amp, taking the amp out of the loop?
