...wheel is there now)? My jeep came with an a.c. compressor but the previous owner removed it. There is an idler wheel in it's place so the belt drive did not change. All of the a.c. connections are taped closed and there is no refrigerant in the system. Should I purchase a new compressor (about $260) or a refurbished one (about $175)? My jeep has 196,000 plus miles, but is in excellent condition inside and out.
 
Thats a pretty easy problem to solve. Since all the connections are already there, all you need is a compressor. It is really up to you on which one you go with. If money is a concern, you might also want to take a look around your local salvage yard and find a 93-98 Grand and pull off the compressor and reuse it. There is nothing wrong with reusing a compressor, despite what other people may say. After all, it is nothing more than a pump that circulates the refrigerant through your A/C system. Just make sure it is flushed out and it will work fine. If you go this route, you will pay about $30-$50 for a compressor.
