LITTLE GREEN GOD

I have a Macbook (not pro). bought it last year.
I want to hook it up to my Samsung 40" 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV (i think it's the 540 class) so that I can use the TV as the screen for my computer (I want to play a Netflix movie on my Mac, and view it on my TV, which can't access Netflix.)
What sort of connectors/adaptors do i need?
I went to the Apple online store but I don't know the difference between a DVI, VGA port, or if I have a Mini DisplayPort. I tried to read the comments because sometimes they're more straight forward than the product description. Some of the comments say "doesn't work with Samsung TV" others say it works, some say the products aren't meant to hook up to TV screens, just projectors and computer monitors. I feel like I can't get a straight answer.
Can anyone help me out?
or send me to a website that gives me an answer?
