How do I hook up a camper to electricity?

We are borrowing a camper to accomidate house guests. Does the camper need to be run to the power pole or can we use a regular outdoor extension cord? Also what about the water can we just hook a hose to it? we have an extra septic tank on our land we could use. Any info is appreciated. I would ask my grandfather inlaw who we are borrowing it from but he is hard to understand.
